Hertfordshire is reported in the 2011 census as being the third highest Traveller population in the Eastern region, home to some 53 Traveller sites with approximately 1300 Traveller children between 0 and 19 years of age. Around 35% of schools in Hertfordshire currently have Traveller pupils on roll. Set against this backdrop, we are pleased to be able to share news of an innovative and ground breaking targeted programme, supporting the young Traveller community in the county.

National and local companies gave students a taste of the world of work at a careers carousel organised by YC Hertfordshire at The Sele School in Hertford.

Fourteen young people from Sir John Lawes School worked with Youth Workers from Hertfordshire County Councils targeted youth service, YC Hertfordshire, to complete The Royal Society for Public Health’s Young Health Champions course over the last academic year, equipping them with the skills to provide mental health support to their peers.

Bookings are now open for YC Hertfordshire’s IAG conference 2020, which will focus on inspiring learning providers to consider innovative ways of engaging students in thinking about careers. There will be a focus on STEM subjects.

88 young people from across Hertfordshire were recognised for their outstanding achievements at Hertfordshire County Council’s YC Hertfordshire Young People’s Awards ceremony at County Hall in Hertford on Wednesday 6th November.
