A young person from Royston has begun a job with local engineering manufacturer thanks to Youth Connexions Hertfordshire’s Pathway to Success scheme.

17-year-old Mitchell from Royston has secured a three-month contract with Kaizen Technology in Royston thanks to the work Youth Connexions staff in the North Hertfordshire team.

An Employment and Training Adviser in the team worked closely with Mitchell over two months to build his confidence, work on his CV-writing skills and interview technique and help him to recognise what his skills were.

The Employment and Training Adviser negotiated for Mitchell to undertake a week of work experience with Kaizen and he was then offered three months of work with the company. If all goes well he will be offered a permanent contract.

Mitchell said he enjoyed the programme and rated it as excellent. He particularly found the week’s work experience helpful.

The Pathway to Success programme is designed to help 16 to 18 year olds who are not in education or employment boost their employability. The programme is tailor made for each individual and can help increase their confidence around interviews, writing CVs ad applying for jobs. Young people can also receive coaching and gain access to relevant work experience.

Young people can access help and support on jobs, apprenticeships and training through their local Youth Connexions One Stop Shops or find out more online.
