Pupils at the Thomas Alleyne Academy in Stevenage jump onto the Careers Carousel

24 October 2016

Interview techniques, CV writing and brushing up on decision making skills were all part of a Careers Carousel session delivered by Hertfordshire County Council Youth Connexions to pupils at the Thomas Alleyne Academy.

The session, delivered as part of PSHE lessons, helped the 81 Year 11 pupils to think about employability skills and what they would need for their first steps into the world of work.

Emma Bumpus, Personal Adviser for Stevenage’s Information, Advice and Guidance Team said: “We used role play and different scenarios to get the pupils talking about everything from interviews and personal profiles to what their dream jobs would be. This also inspired discussions around their options after they have completed their GCSEs.”

Following the Careers Carousel sessions, pupils are now keen to take up individual careers guidance appointments where they can explore their options in greater depth.

Feedback from the sessions will also be shared so that schools in other districts in Hertfordshire can benefit from the Careers Carousel.
