SoSafe Award for Stevenage young person
19 June 2019
A 16-year-old from Stevenage has been given the Young Achiever Award at the SoSafe Stevenage Community Safety Partnership Awards.
Axel was nominated by YC Hertfordshire Youth Workers for his positive contribution to youth projects, including the Bedwell Friday Night Project, and for his dynamic ideas aimed at engaging other young people in projects. Other young people have benefitted enormously from Axel’s work and encouragement. Axel helped to allay the fears of some of his peers who were anxious about a group trip to the Transology Museum at the Brighton Museum during Feeling Good Week.
Axel actively encouraged the members of the group to overcome anxiety by listening to their concerns, being upbeat and positive and allaying their worries about travelling. He has also undertaken programme planning with the group.
He contributes ideas for group activities, including suggesting a dance workshop as a form of expressive arts during Feeling Good week.
Axel has additional needs and through sheer personal tenacity, he is about to complete his GCSEs and has a place at college, something he never thought he would achieve.
The SoSafe Awards recognise and celebrate the amazing and inspiring work that young people do within the community.
Axel said: “I never thought I’d get something like this. I can’t wait to tell my school.”
