Work experience gets the thumbs up
30 October 2015
Youth Connexions was joined last week by Jamie and Clayton, two Year 11 students from Highfield School, Letchworth, for a work experience placement.

Work experience aims to give young people an insight into what it is like to ‘go to work every day’. Students coming into the Youth Connexions Information, Advice and Guidance Team have the opportunity to work with several members of staff, all with very different roles. Some of the things covered in their week were:
- Communications and social media
- Contributing to artwork for school occupational posters
- Developing the work experience student logbook
- An introduction to apprenticeships
- Planning work related-learning activities
The students showed maturity in their attitude to working with others, timekeeping and interest in the projects and work assigned to them. When asked what they enjoyed most about their placement, they answered “having the opportunity to design something that might be used by Youth Connexions.” When asked if they would recommend this placement to another student, they gave a resounding “Yes!” Finally, when asked if they would like to work at Hertfordshire County Council in the future, one answered “Possibly”. High praise indeed!
