YC Hertfordshire North Herts Youth Council has gone virtual!

24 April 2020

YC Hertfordshire North Herts team is now helping young people get involved in their local communities from the safety of their own homes. Youth council meetings are now happening virtually via video and young people have been busy putting together some top tips for their peers.

They have focused on staying well during these challenging times and have created a guide for other young people with suggestions to support wellbeing.

Self Care tips

Self-care is super important for keeping positive. We have been doing one self-care activity a day to help with this. Here are just some of the things we have done:

  1. Looking at old family photos
  2. Doing a face mask
  3. Star gazing
  4. Playing netball
  5. Listening to music

Top ten activities

  1. Walking our pets
  2. Making care packages for our friends
  3. Baking
  4. Going out on our bikes

“Going out on my bike has given me something other than school and everything else which is going on to worry about, it has helped me to worry less”

  1. Talking with family/friends on video calls (see our online safety tips)
  2. Learning a new skill, for example growing your own plants and vegetables
  3. Reading a book
  4. Taking part in ‘dance on your doorstep’ with our neighbours

“This has given me a chance to see my friends and let loose! It also makes me feel like I have some sort of normality, seeing my neighbours”

  1. Spending time in the garden
  2. Drawing & painting

Youth councils are groups of young people aged 11–17, who come together to represent young people in their area, giving them the opportunity to have their say about local and national issues that affect them.

If you, or a young person you know, wants to feel more connected, email the North Herts Team at yc.northherts@hertfordshire.gov.uk or call 01438 843340.
