Young people ‘Clean for the Queen’ in Ware

02 March 2016

Young people who took part in the National Citizen Service (NCS) run by Youth Connexions in East Herts and Broxbourne this February decided to give Ware a spring ‘Clean for the Queen’ as their social action project.

Starting at Ware Youth Centre the young people walked and litter picked into Ware High Street where they filled 4 large bin bags with litter. During the course of their activity they met Councillor Mrs Phyllis Ballam, Mayoress of Ware who praised them for their contribution to the community.

Young people were pleased to be able to make a difference within the local community and be part of the Clean for the Queen celebrations, raising awareness of the importance of taking pride in the community. Some of their comments include “I enjoyed litter-picking more than I expected I would” and “Our efforts help to keep the community tidy.”

The group is now planning the rest of their NCS social action programme and have decided to work on a gardening project at the new Ware Young People’s Centre in Marsh Lane. When the project is completed, the young people plan to have a barbecue outside to celebrate their success and show their work to other young people, staff, parents and members of the community who have supported them.
