Young people in Abbots Langley help celebrate the Community Centre’s 50th birthday

16 November 2018

Young people who take part in the YC Hertfordshire project at Abbots Langley Community Centre were delighted to be able to share in its forthcoming 50th birthday celebrations.

Abbots Langley Community Centre celebrates its 50th birthday in December and, in recognition of the relationship between the centre and YC Hertfordshire, Hertfordshire County Council’s youth service, young people who take part in the weekly project were given £120 by the community centre management committee to spend on celebrating the event.  The young people decided to recognise the occasion by painting a large canvas mural that will be hung in the meeting room at the centre, as well as holding a traditional birthday party at the project.

18 young people attended the party where they went back in time and played traditional childhood party games such as pass the parcel and musical chairs!

“I have never played pass the parcel or musical statues before and I had lots of fun”, said James, aged 16 while Stephen, 15, added: “I won pass the parcel... I had so much fun tonight.”  The whole occasion was a great success and Tamzin 14 commented, “I loved painting the canvas for the community centre, happy 50th birthday!”
