12 March 2019

Young people in St Albans recently celebrated their successful completion of a programme run by YC Hertfordshire, Hertfordshire County Council’s youth service, to boost their employability skills.

Seven young people attended for four weeks with sessions covering interview skills, CV writing, personal branding, local job market information, use of social media, and behaviour in the workplace. The course also included two weeks of work experience with employers from local industries including accounting, hospitality and retail.

Specially-designed activities allowed young people to develop their skills and gain a better understanding of how well they work in a team, communication, organisation and planning skills.

One participant, (Loretta 17) started the NEET Project without any workplace experience and finished with an apprenticeship in her chosen career. She said “I thought the course was brilliant. It really improved my confidence.”

Another participant stated “it was a good experience for me and really developed my skills for the future.” (Alisha 17)
