Dolapo Sarumi, Senior Support Officer for the National Citizen Service programme delivered by Youth Connexions Hertfordshire, attended NCS YES Live on 29th March together with his colleague Harry Ames.

NCS Live March 2016

This is Dolapo’s report of the day, in his own words:

“We were fortunate to be chosen to attend and act as chaperones at the NCS YES Live event. The overall purpose of this Live concert, held at the Roundhouse in Camden, was to showcase the great achievements of NCS groups across the nation. The first ever Social Action Star award went to 6 young people from Newcastle who created a hard hitting, stop-motion video to raise awareness of LGBT issues in the North East.

“Graduates who completed their NCS programme last year were nominated for their outstanding work and contribution to their local community. There were also numerous celebrity appearances, such as Tinie Tempah who was, until the event, the standing Ambassador for NCS across the country; he then passed the baton to Jess Glynne who gracefully received this role. Other stars who were present were, Izzy Bizu, Blonde, Emma Blackery, Craig David and many more well-known television faces. We were honoured to receive a handshake from Melvin Odoom who hosts Kiss 100's Breakfast Show.

Dolapo And Jamal At NCS Live

“Harry and I had the opportunity to speak to Jamal Edwards who is a famous young entrepreneur who started the video production company ‘SBTV’ when he was only 15. This was inspiring to meet someone whose work we have admired growing up. We also had the chance to speak and take selfies with presenter Maya Jama who is well known for presenting on the children’s channel ‘cBeebies.’

“What was consistent in all the people we met was how humble they all were and how although to us they had risen so high at such young ages they still had dreams and ambitions of doing more. It was an amazing experience enjoyed by all who attended.”
