Youth projects for young people in the East Herts district which includes Hertford, Ware, Bishop's Stortford, Buntingford and Sawbridgeworth

YC Hertfordshire Services for Young People is running the following online group sessions and outdoor programmes for young people in the East Herts district during the 2020 school summer holidays.

If you are a professional or parent/carer and would like to refer a young person to any of these projects please make a referral.

Bishop’s Stortford Outdoor Project at Sworder’s Field

Every Tuesday 3-5pm, for four weeks

Come to Sworder’s Field in Bishop’s Stortford to take part in a range of free sports activities, including rounders, football, panna ball, cricket and tennis.

There will also be the opportunity to get information and support on issues important to you from YC Hertfordshire youth workers, as well as informative sessions on social media and personal safety, living a healthy lifestyle and staying safe when you’re out and about in East Herts.

Get involved! Have fun, challenge yourself, learn something different and meet new friends!

For young people aged 11-19

Bishop's Stortford Street-based Project at Sworder's Field and the Town Centre

Wednesday 26th August 2020, 3-5pm

At this street-based (detached) project YC Hertfordshire youth workers offer support to young people with a range of issues, including mental health and wellbeing, education, employment and training. Young people can talk to our youth workers about concerns about their future and any feelings of isolation and loneliness resulting from the COVID-19 restrictions.

Young people will also be reminded of social distancing guidelines to help control the virus in their communities.

Our youth workers ensure they carry out their youth work following the latest social distancing guidance.

Buntingford Outdoor Project at Norfolk Road Playing Fields

Every Friday, 3-5pm, for four weeks

Come to Norfolk Road Playing Fields in Buntingford to take part in a range of free sports activities, including rounders, football, panna ball, cricket and tennis.

LGBT+ Online Project for 13-17 year-olds

Thursdays, 6-7pm

23rd and 30th July 2020
6th, 13th, 20th and 27th August 2020

This project is a for young lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender variant people and those questioning their sexuality.

Join this group for discussions with other young LGBT+ people in the area and to get information and support from YC Hertfordshire youth workers.

For young LGBT+ people aged 13-17 in the East Herts district.

Positive Alternatives Summer Programmes

Programme 1 (Sawbridgeworth): 20th July–20th August 20205
5.30-8.30pm Mondays and Thursdays for five weeks

Programme 2 (Ware): 27th July–7th August 2020
4-7pm Monday-Friday for two weeks

The YC Hertfordshire Positive Alternatives programme is for young people aged 11-17 and incorporates practical sport or art sessions with interactive workshops. You will learn about keeping yourself safe and making positive choices in relation to gangs and knife crime.

Each session includes 2 hours of sports or arts delivered by professional instructors and an interactive workshop delivered by fully-qualified and experienced youth workers. The workshops focus on:

  • identity and belonging
  • gang culture
  • stereotypes and gender
  • violence
  • responsibilities
  • county lines
  • knife crime and reducing use of weapons


On completion of the programme you will receive a certificate of participation and a £30 Amazon voucher.

Please note:
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all summer 2020 programmes will be taking place outdoors and all participants must adhere to the 2m social distancing rules and handwashing practices throughout. All equipment will be sanitised and single-use. Anyone feeling unwell or with any COVID-19 symptoms must not attend.
