Youth projects for young people in the Watford district

YC Hertfordshire Services for Young People is running the following online group sessions and outdoor programmes for young people in the Watford district during the 2020 school summer holidays.

If you are a professional or parent/carer and would like to refer a young person to any of these projects please make a referral.

Positive Alternatives Summer Programmes

Programme 1: 27th July–7th August 2020
1-4.30pm Monday-Friday for two weeks

Programme 2: 3rd–14th August 2020
1-4.30pm Monday-Friday for two weeks

The YC Hertfordshire Positive Alternatives programme is for young people aged 11-17 and incorporates practical sport or art sessions with interactive workshops. You will learn about keeping yourself safe and making positive choices in relation to gangs and knife crime.

Each session includes 2 hours of sports or arts delivered by professional instructors and an interactive workshop delivered by fully-qualified and experienced youth workers. The workshops focus on:

  • identity and belonging
  • gang culture
  • stereotypes and gender
  • violence
  • responsibilities
  • county lines
  • knife crime and reducing use of weapons

On completion of the programme you will receive a certificate of participation and a £30 Amazon voucher.

Please note:
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all summer 2020 programmes will be taking place outdoors and all participants must adhere to the 2m social distancing rules and handwashing practices throughout. All equipment will be sanitised and single-use. Anyone feeling unwell or with any COVID-19 symptoms must not attend.

PACT LGBT+ Online Project

Every Monday, 4-5.30pm

The YC Hertfordshire Watford PACT LGBT+ project is a support group for young lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender variant people and those questioning their sexuality.

Join this group for discussions with other young LGBT+ people in the area and to get information and support from YC Hertfordshire youth workers.

For young LGBT+ people aged 13-17.

Starburst Online Project for Young Adults with Learning Difficulties

Every Tuesday, 7-8pm

Join the Starburst project for supportive discussions with youth workers and other young adults with learning difficulties in your area. As part of this enjoyable and engaging programme, we discuss relationships, health, emotional wellbeing and developing skills for independent living

For young adults with learning difficulties aged 18-24.

Wellbeing Online Project - Thursday

Every Thursday, 3-4pm

Join this project to get support with your wellbeing. If you are struggling with low mood and would like support from other young people and Youth Workers, this project is for you!

For young people aged 12-16.

Stand Up Online Project for Young People of African, Caribbean and Mixed Heritage

Every Thursday, 6pm-7pm

If you are of African, Caribbean or other Black-Mixed heritage, join the new YC Hertfordshire 'Stand Up' online project. It's a chance for you to come together with other young people in your area, share experiences and aspire to make a difference.

For young people aged 13-17

Supporting You Emotional Wellbeing and Resilience Online Project

Every Monday, 7-8pm

Every Wednesday, 7-8pm

If you live in the Watford area and would like some support with your emotional wellbeing or are struggling with anxiety or low mood, this project is for you! You will learn techniques to help you manage your emotional and mental wellbeing and develop skills to improve your confidence and self esteem.

For young people aged 13-17

Watford Street-based Projects

West Watford: every Monday (except 31st August), 2pm-4pm 
Cassiobury: every Thursday, 1pm-3pm 
West Watford/Cassiobury: every Friday, 3pm-5pm

At these street-based (detached) projects YC Hertfordshire youth workers offer support to young people with a range of issues, including mental health and wellbeing, education, employment and training. Young people can talk to our youth workers about concerns about their future and any feelings of isolation and loneliness resulting from the COVID-19 restrictions.

Young people will also be reminded of social distancing guidelines to help control the virus in their communities.

Our youth workers ensure they carry out their youth work following the latest social distancing guidance.
