Youth projects for young people in the Welwyn Hatfield area

YC Hertfordshire Services for Young People is running the following online group sessions and outdoor programmes for young people in the Welwyn Hatfield district during the 2020 school summer holidays.

If you are a professional or parent/carer and would like to refer a young person to any of these projects please make a referral.

Autism Online Project

Mondays, 6-7pm

27th July 2020
3rd, 10th and 17th August 2020

The Autism Project is for young people to have supportive discussions with youth workers and other young people who have autism. As part of our enjoyable and engaging programme, we discuss relationships, health, emotional wellbeing and developing skills for independent living.

For young adults with autism aged 13-17.

Emotional Wellbeing Online Project

Tuesdays, 4-5pm

28th July 2020
5th, 12th, 19th and 26th August 2020

Join this project to get help with any challenges and pressures you are facing in your life and discuss how you can look after your own emotional and mental wellbeing.

The sessions are run by supportive YC Hertfordshire youth workers and designed to help boost your self-esteem, confidence and sense of wellbeing.

For young people aged 13-17.

LGBT+ Online Project for 13-17 year-olds

Mondays, 7-8pm

27th July 2020
3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th August 2020

This project is a for young lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender variant people and those questioning their sexuality.

Join this group for discussions with other young LGBT+ people in the area and to get information and support from YC Hertfordshire youth workers.

For young LGBT+ people aged 13-17 in the Welwyn Hatfield district.

Online Project for Young People with Learning Disabilities

Thursdays, 6pm-7pm

30th July 2020
6th, 13th, 20th and 27th August 2020

Join this project for supportive discussions with youth workers and other young people with learning disabilities in your area. As part of our enjoyable and engaging programme, we discuss relationships, health, emotional wellbeing and developing skills for independent living.

For young people with mild to moderate learning disabilities aged 13-17.

Positive Alternatives Summer Programmes

Programme 1:
27th–31st July 2020, 1-4pm Monday-Friday
3rd-6th August 2020, 1-4pm Monday-Thursday

Programme 2:
10th–21st August 2020, 3-6pm Monday-Friday for two weeks

The YC Hertfordshire Positive Alternatives programme is for young people aged 11-17 and incorporates practical sport or art sessions with interactive workshops. You will learn about keeping yourself safe and making positive choices in relation to gangs and knife crime.

Each session includes 2 hours of sports or arts delivered by professional instructors and an interactive workshop delivered by fully-qualified and experienced youth workers. The workshops focus on:

  • identity and belonging
  • gang culture
  • stereotypes and gender
  • violence
  • responsibilities
  • county lines
  • knife crime and reducing use of weapons


On completion of the programme you will receive a certificate of participation and a £30 Amazon voucher.

Please note:
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all summer 2020 programmes will be taking place outdoors and all participants must adhere to the 2m social distancing rules and handwashing practices throughout. All equipment will be sanitised and single-use. Anyone feeling unwell or with any COVID-19 symptoms must not attend.

Hatfield Street-based Project at Hatfield Town Centre

Fridays, 5-7pm

7th and 28th August 2020

At this street-based (detached) project YC Hertfordshire youth workers offer support to young people with a range of issues, including mental health and wellbeing, education, employment and training. Young people can talk to our youth workers about concerns about their future and any feelings of isolation and loneliness resulting from the COVID-19 restrictions.

Young people will also be reminded of social distancing guidelines to help control the virus in their communities.

Our youth workers ensure they carry out their youth work following the latest social distancing guidance.

Welwyn Garden City Street-based Project at Woodhall

Fridays, 2-4pm

7th, 14th and 21st August 2020

At this street-based (detached) project YC Hertfordshire youth workers offer support to young people with a range of issues, including mental health and wellbeing, education, employment and training. Young people can talk to our youth workers about concerns about their future and any feelings of isolation and loneliness resulting from the COVID-19 restrictions.
