Support for young LGBT+ people

YC Hertfordshire supports young LGBT+ people through projects across the county and through the 'Who not What' group, which represents the voice of the young LGBT+ community of Hertfordshire at a county-wide level.

 

The Young Pride in Herts website was created by the Who not What group. It contains a wealth of information to support young LGBT+ people as well as information for parents and professionals.


YC Hertfordshire projects for young LGBT+ people

YC Hertfordshire runs LGBT+ projects across the whole of the county. They are safe environments where you can meet other LGBT+ young people in Hertfordshire, get support, learn new things and have fun!

Borehamwood LGBT+ Project

The YC Hertfordshire YESS Project is a weekly LGBT+ project for young people aged 13-17 in the Hertsmere area who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans and those who are questioning their gender or sexuality. Come and enjoy meeting other young LGBT+ people in a safe space and help plan our weekly programmes.

The YC Hertfordshire Hertsmere Team's YESS LGBT+ Project is a weekly support group for young lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender variant people and those questioning their sexuality or gender.

Come along to the YESS Project and join in with fun activities, learning opportunities and discussions with other young LGBT+ people in the area. We also organise trips you can attend.

The sessions are fun and relaxed, run by qualified YC Hertfordshire youth workers who are there to support you. Best of all YOU can help plan the weekly programmes!

The YESS Project is for 13-17s and meets every Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30pm.

Cheshunt LGBT+ Project

The 'Be Yourself Be Proud' LGBT+ Project is YC Hertfordshire's project in Cheshunt for young people aged 13-17 who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning their sexuality or gender. Joining the group will allow you to meet other LGBT+ young people in a safe space. You'll find the meetings informative and fun and the staff supportive to all who attend. We aim to provide a support network and opportunities for young LGBT+ people to socialise and learn new skills. The group meets every Tuesday, 7-9pm, in Cheshunt.

The Be Yourself Be Proud LGBT+ project meets every Tuesday from 7pm to 9pm at a location in Cheshunt which will be made available once you contact us. We have a strict confidentiality policy to respect the needs of all involved.

Come along and enjoy meeting other young LGBT+ people in a safe space. We provide information and advice for those who are coming out and those who need a little more help. We also offer emotional support, useful strategies for managing the ups and downs of coming out and finding ways to feel comfortable and confident with your own identity.

You can gain new skills in our practical workshops, discuss LGBT+ issues, fundraise for LGBT+ charities, listen to live music, or take part in arts and crafts, creative writing and cooking. Group members take the lead in deciding what activities and projects the group will do.

It's completely free to attend and no booking is needed. Please contact us for the time and location of the group.

Dacorum LGBT+ Project, Hemel Hempstead

The YC Hertfordshire Dacorum Team runs the 'Happy as I am' LGBT+ Project in Hemel Hempstead for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people and those questioning their sexuality or gender.

Happy as I am LGBT+ project

The YC Hertfordshire Happy As I Am LGBT+ Project is safe space for you to discuss and get support with LGBT+ issues.

It's a confidential project that is safe, secure and run by YC Hertfordshire youth workers who have specific training and experience with LGBT+ issues, know about your rights, positive sexual health choices, lifestyles and jargon used in the LGBT+ community.

It is for 13-17 year-olds and meets from 5pm to 7pm every Thursday

You'll have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have in confidence - either one-to-one or as part of the group.

Stevenage LGBT+ Project

Identity is an LGBT+ project run by the YC Hertfordshire Stevenage Team for young people in the area. It's open to anyone who is lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans or questioning their sexuality. YC Hertfordshire LGBT+ projects are completely confidential. Please contact us for more details.

The YC Hertfordshire 'Identity' LGBT+ project is a safe place for young people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans or questioning their sexuality to meet and engage with each other.

YC Hertfordshire staff support all who attend. We want you to enjoy meeting other young people in a safe space and have your say about what you want to happen.

The location of the project is confidential and will be made available to you once you contact us. We have a strict confidentiality policy to respect the needs of all that are involved.

Three Rivers LGBT+ Project, Rickmansworth

POWWA stands for Proud of Who We Are! This project is for young people aged 12-15 in the Three Rivers area who are exploring their identity, and may need a boost in confidence. At this YC Hertfordshire LGBT+ project young people can access support in a social setting, take part in activities and meet other young LGBT+, people. YC Hertfordshire is the new name for Youth Connexions.

The YC Hertfordshire POWWA project is for young people in Three Rivers area which includes Rickmansworth, Mill End, Maple Cross and the surrounding areas.

You can take part in a range of activities, including art, cooking and discussions. POWWA is an opportunity for you to meet other young people in similar situations and share stories in a safe and confidential environment.

The sessions are fun, relaxed and safe. The YC Hertfordshire youth workers are there to support you and we'll have lots of fun activities and learning as well as trips. You set the agenda, and the group will develop and evolve as it goes. Most importantly we want to give you a supportive group to chat openly and have fun.

The YC Hertfordshire PACT LGBT+ Project is a weekly project for young people aged 13-17 in the Watford area who are in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans community and those who are questioning their sexuality. Come and enjoy meeting other young LGBT+ people in a safe space and help plan our weekly programmes.

Stevenage Trans Project

The YC Hertfordshire Identity Transgender Project is open to all young people who live or are educated in the Stevenage area of Hertfordshire and who identify as transgender, non-binary, gender fluid and/or questioning their gender or sexuality. It is run by YC Hertfordshire which aims to provide a safe space for a social and supportive group. The Stevenage group meets monthly on a Wednesday.

YC Hertfordshire is working with Who Not What, a group of young LGBT+ people who have come together to improve services for young LGBT+ young people in Herts. Through their work we've developed specific support for the young transgender community.

Our aim is to provide a safe space for young trans people to socialise and support each other. Come and talk about the things that matter to you, relax and have fun. Our friendly youth workers organise activities and offer support and advice.

We offer:

  • A place to explore your identity
  • Support and information about transitioning, your rights, coming out and much more
  • Activities and workshops, e.g. art projects, drama games and film nights
  • An opportunity to celebrate LGBT History Month and LGBT+ culture with peers
