Youth projects for young people with learning disabilities

YCH Services for Young People runs projects across Hertfordshire specifically for young people with learning disabilities up to their 25th birthday.

Covid-19 update: December 2020

YCH Services for Young People youth projects will continue to be delivered online via video conferencing until 20 December 2020 when they break for Christmas. Youth projects will restart in young people’s centres during the week commencing 11th January 2021.

Snappy G's, Hitchin

There are loads of great activities at Snappy G's - and you decide what they are! Are you a young person aged 13-17 with a learning disability? If so Snappy G's is the YCH youth project for you! It's based at Hitchin Young People’s Centre on Nightingale Road in Hitchin and runs on Tuesday evenings.

At Snappy G's you'll find a varied term-time programme of exciting activities specially designed for young people with learning disabilities. The activities are decided in consultation with the young people.

YCH's Snappy G's project is also a place where you can work towards your Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

Snappy G's runs on Tuesdays from 6pm to 8pm.

Galaxy Project, Rickmansworth

The Galaxy Youth Project runs every Thursday night at the Rickmansworth Young People's Centre. It's for young people aged 13–17 who have a mild learning disability, need a boost in self-confidence or would benefit from being in a small supportive environment. YCH is the new name for Youth Connexions.

At the YCH Galaxy Youth Project you'll find friendly youth workers to chat to about any issues you may have. It's a great place to meet other young people and experience something new.

We do arts and crafts, sports and much, much more!

Come down to check it out and feel free to give us suggestions about what you'd like to see more of in the project - we want it to be as fun and busy as possible for you!

The Rickmansworth Youth Centre is wheelchair accessible with assistance.

Creative Spark Project, Harpenden

Creative Spark is a project for young people with learning disabilities. Run by YCH, the project enables young people to build communication skills, resilience and independent living skills through a variety of activities.

The Creative Spark Project at the Harpenden Young People’s Centre is for young people with learning disabilities. 

You can get involved with activities, develop skills for independent living and join discussions with Youth Workers on subjects such as relationships, health and emotional wellbeing.

The project runs every Monday evening from 4.30pm to 6.30pm and is for young people aged 13-17.

The Harpenden Young People’s Centre is fully wheelchair accessible.

Focus Project, Waltham Cross

The YCH Focus Youth Project is an exciting youth project for young people with learning disabilities. If you are aged 13-24 and interested in playing sports, cooking, arts & crafts, music-making and socialising then this is the project for you!

Waltham Cross Young People's Centre offers a range of high-quality facilities that you can access when you come to this project. We have a fully working music studio, an ICT suite, games consoles, football sessions, table tennis, pool, kitchen, a large sports hall & outside space. The activities are designed around you so there is plenty of flexibility to the needs of the group.



Come to the YCH Focus Youth Project and get involved in all of these!

There are two groups:

  • 13-17s meet on Tuesdays, 7pm-9pm
  • 18-24s meet on Wednesdays, 7.15pm-9.15pm

YCH staff are experienced in working with young people with a variety of needs. When you join the project there is a short assessment to see if you need help with anything specific.

Fusion Project, Borehamwood

The Fusion at 96 Project is a YCH project for young adults aged 18-24 with a moderate learning disability and takes place at 96 Shenley Road in Borehamwood. Come along on Monday evenings from 7pm to 9pm. You'll get to spend time with other young adults who live in the area in a safe and relaxing environment. The project is run by professionally trained and supportive youth workers from YCH's Hertsmere Team. You'll also get the chance to develop new interests and learn new life skills.

At the YCH Fusion at 96 Project for Young Adults with Learning Disabilities you can have a go at lots of activities including:

  • table tennis
  • arts & crafts
  • local trips out
  • cooking
  • beauty sessions
  • board games
  • badminton
    ... and much more.

We have access to the reception area, the large hall and the state-of-the-art kitchen.

Young people can also join this project online via video conferencing.

Youth workers are trained in Epilepsy awareness and Epi Pen trained. There is a wheelchair accessible computer.

M&M Project, Bishop's Stortford

The YCH M&M Project is for young people aged 13-17 with mild to moderate learning disabilities. It's a safe place where you can make friends, learn new skills, relax and have fun! We meet every Thursday evening 7.30-9.30pm.

The YCH M&M Project takes place at the Bishop’s Stortford Young People’s Centre every Thursday, 7.30-9.30pm.

It is a safe space where you can make new friends. You'll also learn new skills to help you become happier and more independent. As well as a range of activities, we have sessions on developing positive emotional wellbeing, healthy eating and staying safe.

Come along and get involved in activities including:

The activities are designed around you so they are flexible to the needs of the group. YCH staff are experienced in working with young people with a variety of needs.

Welwyn Hatfield Autism Online Project

The YCH Welwyn Hatfield Autism Online Project is an exciting project for young people aged 13-17 with Asperger’s Syndrome or autism. If you'd like the opportunity to meet others online and join in discussions, this group is for you!

The Welwyn Hatfield Autism Online Project is for young people with autism or Asperger’s Syndrome to have supportive discussions with youth workers and other young people who have autism.

As part of our enjoyable and engaging programme, we discuss relationships, health, emotional wellbeing and developing skills for independent living.

Breakout Project, Hatfield

The YCH Breakout Project is for young people aged 13-17 with mild to moderate learning disabilities. It's a place where you can make friends, learn new skills, relax and have fun.

The YCH Breakout Project for Young People with Learning Disabilities takes place at Hatfield Young People’s Centre every Thursday, 6-8pm.

It is a safe space where you can meet people and make friends. You'll also learn new skills to help you become more independent and maintain positive mental health, and you can take part in lots of fun activities such as:

  • sports
  • drama projects
  • discussions and debates
  • games
  • cooking
  • music
  • arts and crafts

The activities are designed around your needs and delivered by YCH youth workers who are experienced in working with young people with a variety of needs.

The YCH Breakout Project is located at Hatfield Young People's Centre, adjacent to Breaks Manor Youth Centre, in the centre of Hatfield within 10 minutes walking distance of the train station; it serves both Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield.

Megamix Project, Stevenage

Megamix is a YCH project for young people with additional needs aged 13-17. It's based at the largest youth centre in Hertfordshire - the Bowes Lyon Young People's Centre in Stevenage on Tuesday evenings. YCH is the new name for Youth Connexions.

Megamix is a project for young people with learning disabilities.

Come and join us, have some fun and make new friends!



The project runs on Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

There is a wide range of activities for you to get involved with, all designed specifically for young people with particular needs and support.

Shine Project, Borehamwood

Shine is a YCH youth project at 96 Shenley Road for young people aged 13-17 with learning disabilities and/or Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It takes place on Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. You'll get to spend time with other young people in a safe and relaxing environment. The project is run by professionally trained and supportive youth workers from YCH's Hertsmere Team. You'll also get the chance to develop new interests, participate in fun activities and learn new life skills.

At the YCH Shine Project for Young People with Learning Disabilities you can have a go at lots of activities including:

  • table tennis
  • arts & crafts
  • local trips out
  • cooking
  • beauty sessions
  • board games
  • badminton
    ... and much more.

The staff at this project have specific training to work with young people on the autistic spectrum and/or with epilepsy. They are trained in epilepsy awareness and Epi Pen trained. There is a wheelchair accessible computer.

Starburst Project, Watford

'Starburst' is a YCH project with a focus on young adults with learning disabilities aged 18-24. Come along to the Watford Young People's Centre on Tuesday evenings to take part in a range of activities including drama, arts and crafts and cooking, in a fun and supportive atmosphere. YCH is the new name for Youth Connexions.

YCH's Starburst Project is for young people aged 18-24 with learning disabilities. It is based at the Watford Young People's Centre, a wonderful multi-activity centre for young people in Watford which has a sports, dance and activity hall, an art room and a state-of-the-art kitchen.

We focus on independent living skills, relationships and emotional wellbeing in a relaxed and supportive environment. The project has a welcoming and friendly atmosphere and we are always looking to welcome and include new young people who might be interested in joining us.

Young people attending can develop their knowledge, skills and confidence through a range of fun activities, including cooking, sports, arts and crafts and drama.

The Watford Young People's Centre is fully wheelchair accessible and the cooking suite is specially designed to be wheelchair-user friendly.
