Support for young parents and parents-to-be

Participants gain a City and Guilds Employability Skills qualification which will help them to progress to further education, training or employment. The Plus One programme also contains elements which help the young parents grow in confidence and cope with the new challenges of being a parent.

YC Hertfordshire youth workers and personal advisers support and encourage young the parents/parents-to-be throughout the programme. They help facilitate group sessions and also provide advice and guidance on the young people's next steps after the programme.


Who is it for?

The programme is for young mums and dads, and young mums and dads-to-be who live in Hertfordshire and are aged 14-21 (up to the age of 24 if they have learning disability).

Stevenage Project for Young Parents and Parents To Be - Plus One

Do you have a baby or are you pregnant? Are you up to 21 years old? Why not join the YC Hertfordshire project for young parents? It's for young parents and parents-to-be in the North Herts and Stevenage areas. It's completely free and will help you manage the challenge of being a parent and develop important skills and qualities for your future.

The YC Hertfordshire Plus One Young Parents Project at the Bowes Lyon Young People's Centre is a great opportunity to meet other young parents like you.

The group is run by YC Hertfordshire and offers support, advice and guidance to young parents and parents to be up to the age of 21. The programme covers healthy eating, relationships, budgeting etc and takes place in a relaxed and supportive environment.

The Bowes Lyon Young People's Centre is fully wheelchair accessible.

Ware Project for Young Parents and Parents-To-Be- Plus One

Are you pregnant or a new parent? Are you aged 14-21? If so the YC Hertfordshire Plus One programme for young mums and dads is for you! For young parents and parents-to-be in the East Herts area, this programme is completely free, will help you manage the challenges of being a parent, support you with developing valuable skills and qualities for planning your future, and also being the best possible parent you can be.

The YC Hertfordshire Plus One parenting course is a great opportunity for you to meet other young parents like you. The project offers support, advice and guidance to young parents and parents-to-be up to the age of 21.

The YC Hertfordshire Plus One course is a great opportunity for you to:

  • Meet others and make new friends
  • Develop your parenting and healthy living skills
  • Get tips on how to make your money go further
  • Find out about what’s on locally for you and your baby
  • Learn more about yourself and develop confidence
  • Learn about healthy relationships and sexual health
  • Share ideas and discover what is important
  • Gain a nationally-recognised City and Guilds qualification

The sessions consist of workshops, team challenges, guest speakers, visits to places where you can get ongoing support, and a host of other fun and interactive activities.

You will get lots of support throughout the programme as well as help to plan your future.

After the course you will continue to get one-to-one support, information, advice and guidance with your next steps from YC Hertfordshire personal advisers and youth workers.

The YC Hertfordshire Plus One course is completely free. If you need childcare we can support you and help you to apply for funding for it.

The YC Hertfordshire Ware Young People's Centre is fully wheelchair accessible.
